The Location

I first visited Amada Colossos Resort on a press trip, and returned with my family in August 2026 for a few days at the start of our Rhodes holiday. Coming back gave me the chance to experience the resort in a completely different way - less as a first introduction, and more as a family actually settling in, spending long days between the pool and beach, revisiting the restaurants and making the most of everything on site.

Set on the east coast of Rhodes in Kallithea, Amada Colossos is a large five-star beachfront resort with a huge choice of rooms, suites and villas, several restaurants, its own waterpark and direct access to the Aegean. It’s also well placed for exploring Rhodes Town and some of the smaller villages nearby.

One of the things I remembered most from my first stay was the beach, and returning this time only reinforced that. The resort has its own stretch of shoreline, with loungers, private gazebos and Enalia Seaside Restaurant all just a few steps from the water. It’s one of the areas that makes such a big resort still feel surprisingly relaxed, particularly towards late afternoon when the light softens over the sea.

The Room

We stayed in a Sea View Family Room, with a double bed, two single beds and sliding doors opening onto a generous balcony overlooking the pool and Aegean. The balcony ended up being one of our favourite parts of the room, especially first thing in the morning when the resort was still quiet and the light was coming up over the water.

The room itself is simple and contemporary rather than overly luxurious, but it worked really well for us as a family of four and felt spacious enough for a few days.

For something more private, the resort also offers Sea View Amada Villas with their own pools and uninterrupted views across the Aegean, along with extra benefits such as airport transfers and selected in-villa experiences.

Food & Drink

Food was one of the things I was particularly keen to revisit this time. Alongside the main buffet restaurant, Amada Colossos has a choice of à la carte restaurants covering Greek, Italian and Asian food, but for me the standout experience is still eating by the sea at Enalia.

Enalia Seaside Restaurant

Enalia is set right on the beach and focuses on Greek and Rhodian dishes cooked over hot coals, spits and wood-fired ovens. We ate there at golden hour and it was easily one of my favourite meals of the stay - partly because of the setting, but also because it feels completely different from eating inside a traditional hotel restaurant.

There’s something about sitting metres from the Aegean, sharing plates as the sun drops, that makes it feel like a proper holiday dinner rather than simply another meal included within a resort stay.

Hai - Asian Fusion

Hai was our first dinner after arriving, and it was an easy win with everyone. We ordered a mix of dishes to share, including bao buns, cucumber salad and curry, and the caramelised banana dessert prepared table side was a particular highlight.

Benini's - Italian Cuisine

Benini’s was probably the easiest crowd-pleaser with the boys. There are freshly made pizzas and pasta dishes, and after a full day around the pool it was exactly the kind of relaxed dinner we wanted.

Beach Gazebo Hire

We booked one of the private beach gazebos again this time, and it’s still one of the experiences I’d most recommend. Each one sits just metres from the sea and comes with chilled drinks, fruit and snacks, with plenty of shade and space to properly settle in for the day.

I’m not someone who naturally wants to lie on a beach for hours, but this really works for me because you have the comfort and privacy of the gazebo while still being able to keep an eye on the children in the water. It feels like a little retreat within the resort.

Breakfast

Breakfast on the balcony was another highlight. We had breakfast delivered to the room one morning and ate outside overlooking the pool and sea as the resort was waking up below us.

Rather than choosing individual dishes, we let the hotel put together a selection for us, and it ended up being one of those slow holiday breakfasts you remember - fresh fruit, pastries, coffee and a few more traditional dishes, including a bulgur wheat breakfast with fruit and tomatoes that I unexpectedly loved.

What's on for Families?

Pool and Waterpark

If you asked the boys what brought them back to Amada Colossos, I’m fairly sure the waterpark would be near the top of the list. Between the main pool, waterpark and beach, there was very little chance of them getting bored.

The waterpark has separate areas for different ages, with larger slides as well as gentler options for younger children. We ended up spending a lot of time here as a family, and it was probably the part of the resort the boys were most excited to return to.

The main pool is huge too, with different zones and swim-up bars, so even on busy summer days it never felt as though everyone was packed into one small area.

Evening Entertainment

There’s also evening entertainment in the amphitheatre, which was useful on nights when we didn’t want to leave the resort. On our previous visit we watched their Mamma Mia production, which the boys loved from beginning to end.

Things to do Nearby

Explore Rhodes

As easy as it would be to stay within the resort for the whole trip, I’d still recommend getting out and seeing some of Rhodes while you’re here. One day, we took a taxi from the resort to Rhodes and explored the charming cobbled streets of this medieval town. I found some beautiful olive wood souvenirs and discovered several lovely coffee spots. We particularly enjoyed a stop at 'Barajar,' where the baked goods were delicious, and the outdoor seating area, nestled under a tree canopy, provided a perfect setting for a relaxing pit stop.

Greek Cats

If like me, you are cat crazy then you will love wandering round saying hello to all the friendly Greek cats. This handsome guy was all too happy to pose and be made a fuss of!

Koskinou Village

Just a ten-minute drive from the resort, I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll through this charming village. We also discovered a fascinating 'Museum of the House,' where a local guide gave us a tour of a traditional Greek home from years past. The streets are adorned with Greek cats, quaint bistros, and eye-catching blue and white façades. We rented a car from the hotel’s reception, and the process was incredibly efficient - within five minutes of walking into the office, we had the keys and were ready to go!

Would I return to Amada Colossos?

Well, I did - which probably answers that question better than anything else I could say. Returning with my family in August 2026 reminded me why Amada Colossos worked so well for us the first time. It’s a large resort and there’s a lot going on, but there are also moments that feel genuinely relaxed - breakfast overlooking the Aegean, dinner at Enalia as the sun goes down, or disappearing into a shaded beach gazebo for the afternoon.

For the boys, the pool and waterpark are still a huge part of the appeal. For me, it’s the combination of those family facilities with good food, the beach and enough quieter pockets that it doesn’t feel relentlessly busy.

If you’re looking for a small boutique hotel, this probably isn’t that. But if you want an easy family holiday where there’s plenty to do, several places to eat and the option to barely leave the resort if you don’t want to, it works extremely well.

And yes, I’d happily return again.
