Where to Eat in Norwich: A Food Lover’s Guide to the Best Cafés, Bakeries & Restaurants
Norwich has quietly built one of the most exciting food scenes in the UK - one that doesn’t shout about itself, but completely delivers once you know where to look. Recently named one of the best places to live by The Times, it’s a city shaped by small-batch bakeries, genuinely great coffee spots and independent food places that people return to again and again. This isn’t a list for one-off visits - it’s a collection of the places that have become part of my regular Norwich routine and where you should eat in Norwich city centre.
Bakeries worth queueing for
Norwich bakery guide: Norwich does bakeries exceptionally well. These are the places that people queue for, recommend instantly, and return to without thinking twice - whether it’s for a quick coffee and pastry or something worth planning your morning around.

Devecchio
(My personal favourite - and they do great coffee) A small-batch bakery that feels genuinely special. Expect beautifully made pastries and bakes that often sell out early - this is one to get to while the shelves are still full. I have yet to visit first thing when there isn't a queue - always a good sign! I come back to this again and again.
Swirl
Known for some of the best cinnamon buns in Norwich, with new flavours rotating weekly. Soft, generous and very hard to walk past without picking one up. They are stocked in multiple locations across the city, check their Instagram daily for locations.

Bread Source
A Norwich staple and consistently rated among the best bakeries in Norfolk. Think artisan sourdough, classic pastries and a reliable go-to no matter the time of day. They have been my top choice for hot cross buns for many Easters now!

2 Magpies Bakery
With multiple locations across the city and coast, 2 Magpies has built a reputation for handmade bakes and standout treats - their award winning miso caramel hazelnut brownie is worth seeking out. If you fancy a coastal stroll and a coffee to go, their Wells-Next-The-Sea an Blakeney location are worth going out of your way for.
Slow morning brunch spots
Norwich is a city that does slow mornings well - the kind where coffee turns into brunch and you’re in no rush to leave. From standout speciality coffee to relaxed, light-filled cafés, these are the spots worth settling into - whether you’re after a quick coffee or a proper sit-down brunch.

Strangers Coffee A go-to for consistently excellent coffee. If you’re serious about your flat whites, this is one of the best spots in the city - simple, well done, and always reliable.
No.33 With two locations in the city, No.33 is a firm favourite for brunch. Expect generous plates, a menu you’ll want to come back for, and the kind of atmosphere that works just as well for a quick coffee as it does a long, slow morning. The one in Chapelfield Gardens is beautiful on a sunny morning as there is lots of outdoor sitting in a peaceful green space - both always have a queue at opening so get there early to secure a good spot.

JC Pinto A slightly more under-the-radar spot that’s well worth knowing about. Great coffee, a strong brunch offering and a relaxed feel that makes it easy to settle in and stay a while.
Billy's A slightly more health-focused option, with a fresh, modern feel. Think lighter brunch dishes, good coffee and a space that feels just as suited to a quick stop as it does a slower start to the day. They are also my go-to Swirl stockist!

Finnie’s (The Lanes) A bright, feel-good spot for juices, coffee and lighter brunch options. Tucked away in the Lanes, it’s perfect for slower mornings when you want something a little fresher.

Casual food that's actually good
Not every meal needs planning - and Norwich is full of places that make it easy to eat well without overthinking it. Whether it’s a quick market stop, a relaxed lunch or something to grab and take with you, these are the easy wins.

Norwich Market One of the best places in the city for a quick, no-fuss bite. With a huge mix of street food stalls, it’s ideal when everyone wants something different — and perfect for picking up lunch to eat on the go. You can even find Bread Source on there!
Grosvenor Fish Bar A Norwich classic with a bit of a twist. Expect generous portions, loaded fries and a more modern take on the traditional chippy — great for something quick but still really satisfying.
Brick Pizza A solid go-to for sourdough pizza that’s quick, reliable and consistently good. Ideal for an easy lunch or low-key dinner without needing to plan ahead.
Logan’s Sandwich Bar A proper, no-frills sandwich spot and a bit of a Norwich institution. I used to come here at college to build my go-to sandwich, and it’s still one of those easy, reliable places you keep going back to.
When you want something a bit more special
When it comes to dinner, Norwich has plenty of options - and honestly, it’s hard to narrow it down to just one place. Whether you’re after something relaxed and varied, a more refined evening or just a really good cocktail, these are the places I have gone back to over the years.

Yalm Foodhall
A great option when you can’t decide. Canteen-style but home to some of Norwich’s best food names, it’s perfect for groups or families - Eric’s Pizza is always a favourite with the kids, while NXXDS is my go-to.
Benedicts
For something a little more special, Benedicts is one of the standout dining spots in the city. Led by chef Richard Bainbridge, it’s refined without feeling formal - the kind of place you’d book when you want a proper dining experience.
Melville & Sons
A slightly more relaxed take on small plates dining. Great wine, a lovely atmosphere and ideal for slower evenings that don’t feel overly formal. It can get quite busy so best to book if you want to dine.

Makers House
My favourite spot for tapas-style dining. Relaxed, full of flavour and perfect for sharing - and if you’re staying a little longer, Bar Hawthorn upstairs is ideal for drinks afterwards.
Benoli
A go-to for fresh pasta and simple, well-executed dishes and a menu that changes regualrly. It’s one of those places that does a few things really well and keeps you coming back.
Tipsy Jar
My favourite for cocktails - served in jars, which I love. A great spot to end the evening, with a fun, relaxed atmosphere and a really fun cocktail list!
Norwich isn’t loud about its food scene - but once you start exploring, it’s very hard to stop. It’s the kind of place where one good coffee turns into brunch, lunch turns into a market wander, and before you know it you’re planning where to go for dinner.
If you’re visiting, or just want a few new spots to try, this is a guide you’ll want to come back to.
